Environment minister Anil Madhav Dave dies at 60, “a personal loss” says Narendra Modi

New Delhi : Union environment minster Anil Madhav Dave passed away around 9.30 on Thursday in the Intensive Unit for Cardiac Care at All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) He was 60.

He was rushed to the hospital around 8.15 am complaining chest pain, short of breath and uneasiness. Cardiac specialists at the hospital tried to resuscitate him for more than an hour before Dave breathed his last.

“Doctors tried hard to revive him, but his condition kept on deteriorating,” said a hospital staff.

He was sworn in as minister with independent charge of environment, forest and climate change last year and has been an active Rajya Sabha member since 2009.

However the beginning of this year saw the minister off and on at office owing to outs of illness. “Minister has been unwell lately and has not been coming to office on regular basis. We brief him at his residence,” a senior official at the ministry told media.

Dave has been under the care of Dr Gautam Sharma, professor in the department of cardiology at AIIMS.

Describing the Dave’s departure Prime Minister Modi said, the death was a “personal loss”. “Anil Madhav Dave ji will be remembered as a devoted public servant. He was tremendously passionate towards conserving the environment,” Modi tweeted.

Meanwhile the Minister’s  body has been shifted from AIIMS Mortuary to the department of anatomy for embalming after which it will be flown to his hometown Indore later in the day.
